The Black Keys - Blakroc

It is the perfect combination of rock and hiphop that would easily make Fred Durst reevaluate on how to make such music (don’t hold your breath).
Take the garage rock band The Black Keys with their blues riffs and psychedelic feel with the likes of such respected hip hop artists as Mos Def, RZA, Raekwon, and Q-Tip. The beats and riffs feel natural as if this was a secret desire of The Black Keys to put aside the blues rock and become hip hop producers (They are not strangers to this since DJ Dangermouse produced Attack and Release).
The first track “Coochie” starts off strong with the humor of Ludacris and the late, great Ol’ Dirty Bastard which then leads to the dreamlike “On the Vista” by Mos Def bringing out his signature stream of consciousness flow. The rest of the album blends old school, underground hip hop, and even an R&B track entitled “Why Can’t I Forget Him” by Nicole Smith. Although some riffs/beats and songs shine more than others, this is an interesting album that begs The Black Keys to collaborate with more of the best minds in hiphop.
