The Melvins at the Spanish Moon
June 8, 2010
The Melvins, to no one’s surprise, put on a show just as ear-ringingly loud, spectacular, and amazing as last year’s. The difference was that this time they had an opening band before their double-set. Oh, and they were in dresses. That’s right, dresses!
Coady Willis (drums) was sporting a dress made of a fine pizza-print fabric adorned with red-sequined shoulders. Dale Crover (drums) was wearing a simpler donut-print smock. Buzz Osborne (guitar) had his usual black robes, but this time they were adorned with a fabulous collar. And then there was Jared Warren (bass). He was wearing what looked like DIY Afrika Bambaataa/P-Funk suit of purple and gold (no LSU connection intended). Someone guessed that costumes were probably made for Bonaroo. I guessed that it probably didn’t matter because they were too busy looking like Awesomeness Itself.
All visuals aside, the Melvins were stunning. Their two drummers locked perfectly to make an incomparable rhythmic base off which the guitar and bass riffed. They didn’t stop and talk between songs. They just played. And played. Then they took a break, came back, and repeated.
As of this writing, I’ve seen the Melvins twice and can’t wait to make it thrice

i missed out big time.
